Discovery

In Afghanistan, where over 60% of the population consisted of youth, young people were systematically excluded from peace talks and decision-making. While warlords, politicians, and foreign powers dictated the country’s future, the voices of millions of young Afghans—the generation that would inherit the consequences—were ignored.
Recognizing this urgent need, Reza Hussaini, along with over 300 youth-led organizations from all 34 provinces of Afghanistan, founded the National Youth Consensus for Peace. This movement brought together youth from diverse ethnic, tribal, and regional backgrounds, proving that Afghan unity was possible, even in the face of decades of division. The National Youth Consensus for Peace took pride in working closely with grassroots-level organizations, the Afghan government, and the international community to advocate for the meaningful inclusion of young men and women in the Afghan peace process.

Key Achievements

During one year, the Consensus successfully:
  • Mobilized 2,000+ youth across Afghanistan.
  • Issued the first National Resolution of Youth, a historic document demanding youth inclusion in peace efforts.
  • Established the Indo-Afghan Youth Forum, fostering cross-border dialogue and collaboration.
  • Developed a mechanism for youth inclusion in decision-making at national and international levels.
  • Conducted a nationwide survey with 5,000 respondents, gathering youth perspectives on peace and security.
  • Launched the #CeasefireNow signature campaign, advocating for an end to violence.
  • oined & represented Afghanistan at the Global Coalition on Youth, Peace, and Security, ensuring Afghan youth had a voice in global peace efforts.
  • Represented Afghanistan at numerous international events & high-level meetings, making the case for youth-led peacebuilding.
  • Published Op-Eds to promote the cause, raising awareness about the importance of youth participation in peace efforts.
  • Accomplished all of this voluntarily, demonstrating the power of youth-driven initiatives.

A Historic Three-Day Ceasefire

Through relentless advocacy, the Consensus successfully pushed for a three-day ceasefire, marking a historic moment in Afghanistan’s long-standing conflict. This achievement demonstrated that when young people take the lead, peace is possible, challenging the belief that war was the only path forward.

A Unified Youth Resolution for Peace

One of the movement’s most significant achievements was the National Youth Resolution for Peace, a document crafted by youth representatives from each province and every part of Afghanistan. This resolution was a direct message to:
  • The International Community – Urging them to support an inclusive peace process that involved Afghan youth, rather than making decisions without those directly affected by the war.
  • The Afghan Government – Demanding youth representation in negotiations and policymaking, ensuring that peace efforts prioritized the people who had suffered the most.
  • The Taliban – Calling on them to engage in meaningful dialogue, respect the rights of all Afghans, and acknowledge the role of youth in rebuilding the nation.
This resolution sent a clear message: Afghan youth were not just victims of war but active agents of peace, capable of leading the country toward a more inclusive and just future.

A Lasting Impact

The National Youth Consensus for Peace was more than a movement—it was a declaration that Afghanistan’s youth refused to be sidelined. The initiative proved that peace was not just an abstract dream but an achievable reality when young people united for a common cause.
Though the movement has now concluded its activities, its impact continues to inspire youth-led initiatives in Afghanistan and beyond. The message remains clear: Afghanistan’s future cannot be built without its youth.
